What to Wear to Zumba? A Beginner’s Guide
All you need to do is keep it simple and comfortable by wearing athletic clothes and supportive shoes. If you've been thinking about trying Zumba lately but have no idea what to wear, you're not alone. This is one of the most common questions beginners ask, and honestly, it's a lot simpler than you think.
The One Thing You Can't Skip: Your Shoes
One of the most important things you have to wear to a Zumba class is your shoes. Zumba involves a lot of stepping, movement and spinning and you’ll definitely need something that supports your feet throughout.
Get yourself sneakers that have good soles, great side support and won't make you trip, like cross-trainers. Any reliable athletic brand, such as New Balance, Nike, Adidas, or Puma, is wonderful. You don't need anything too fancy or out of your budget; you just need something that works. or too. You must make it a point to avoid flip-flops, sandals, heavy boots, heels, or old, worn-out sneakers and your feet will thank you.
Wear Clothes You Can Move In
When it comes to clothes, athletic leggings, yoga pants, joggers, fitted t-shirts, tank tops, or athletic shorts all work well. The goal is to be as free as possible to make movement easy. Baggy jeans are not ideal because they are usually heavy, less flexible, and can restrict the stepping, squatting, and turning that Zumba requires. Overly loose tops are also not the best choice because they can ride up, shift around, or make it harder to move your arms freely and comfortably. Also, don’t forget you are going to sweat, so carry a small towel to wipe it.

You Probably Already Have Everything You Need
A good pair of sneakers will run you around SGD 87 – 130 and they'll last a long time. For athletic clothes, you already own them. Most people walk into their first Zumba class already fully equipped without realizing it.
Always keep your accessories minimal and remember to bring a water bottle and a small towel, since Zumba is a sweaty workout. Pull your hair back in whatever style that keeps it secure: ponytail, bun, braid. You'll be moving fast, so you want it out of your face.
